'ONDINE' FIGHTS FOR SUPPORT...

Although tickets for the premiere of Ondine, the Irish film starring Colin Farrell, sold out at the Toronto Film Festival last month, people have been slow to invest in Irish film this year.

An average of 175 people a month have claimed tax relief under Section 481, a scheme to encourage investment in Irish film. Last year, an average of 267 people a month claimed relief.

  1. xx Gemini. I don't understand what the second part of this means. What relief and why does it effect Ondine? Does it mean the movie may never be available to see in the U.S. or maybe (hopefully) at least on DVD?

  2. I think it's basically saying that it may not hit the cinema in the big way that was planned, and certainly it won't be shown some places, as it doesn't have enough capital invested into it to warrant it as a major film. So yes, you could be right, it might end up going straight to DVD.
